Enabling Resonant Commutated Pole in Parallel Power FET Bridge Legs

To meet the requirements of higher current ratings and lower thermal impedances, paralleling power field-effect transistor (FET) discretes or modules is often a cost-effective even an unavoidable solution. While FETs allows for significant reduction in conduction loss, switching loss increased hard-switching applications. This article proposes generic soft-switching modulation scheme parallel FET bridge legs. Part paralleled legs chosen as auxiliary leg that turned on prior to remaining main A resonant commutated pole (RCP) mode then created, which enables high-side achieve zero-current (ZCS) quasi-ZCS zero-voltage switching. Thus, we can significantly reduce normally dominates total high-frequency converters particularly at partial light loads. Experimental results from three GaN high-electron-mobility validate effectiveness this RCP-enabled solution reducing losses improving conversion efficiencies. accompanied by supplementary JIF PDF files demonstrating operational details RCP mode.
